Custom Earmolds - Hillsborough & Watchung, NJ

Custom earmolds are custom earpieces that can serve a variety of purposes.  An impression is made of your ear and ear canal.  The impression is sent to an earmold manufacturer who will create an earmold specifically for your individual ear to accomplish your individual needs.  A wide assortment of colors is available for most earmolds.  Functions of custom earmolds include:

  • Behind the ear (BTE) hearing aid earpiece
  • Hearing protection
  • Swim plugs
  • In ear monitors for musicians
  • Earpieces for music headphones and cell phones
  • Earpieces for stethoscopes
BTE hearing aid earpieces are available in a variety of styles and materials.  They range from small earpieces that fit into the ear canal to larger earpieces that fill in the entire outer ear.  Materials include silicones that range from soft to firm, acrylic, and vinyl.

Hearing protection is accomplished with earpieces designed to reduce exposure to loud, potentially dangerous, sounds.  They can be equipped with filters to help preserve the ability to hear speech or preserve the frequency response of music.  They can be coupled to sound sources to allow listening to music or using 2-way radios.

Swim plugs are designed to prevent moisture from entering the ear canal when swimming or bathing.  They are important if you are prone to outer ear infections (swimmer’s ear), have a hole in your eardrum, or have tubes in your eardrums.

In ear monitors are designed for musicians and can accurately reproduce the sound of live music while providing hearing protection to minimize noise related hearing loss.

Earpieces for music headphones and cell phones allow a custom earpiece to be used in place of the standard “one-size-fits-all” ear pieces that are provided with most personal music players and cell phones.  Custom earpieces are typically more comfortable, allow delivery of a more consistent sound quality, and better retained in the ear.

Earpieces for stethoscopes are designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals who use stethoscopes.  They typically fit more comfortably in the ear than the standard stethoscope earpiece.
